We want every visitor to be able to read this site and reach Lowell. Here is what the site does, what it does not do yet, and how to get help.
The target, and what the site actually does
We build toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. That is the target we work to, not a claim of conformance: the site has not been through a formal accessibility audit or a screen reader review, so we tell you what it does rather than what standard it meets.
- Every page has one main heading, and the section headings under it run in order down the page.
- Every page starts with a skip link that jumps a keyboard or screen reader straight to the main content.
- Every form field has its own visible label, and a field shows a highlighted border while it has focus.
- The menu button, the drawer, the question toggles and the forms all work from the keyboard, and the Escape key closes the menu.
- Photographs placed as images carry a text description of what is in the picture.
- Animation and scrolling effects stop when your device asks for reduced motion.
What is still being improved
- Some photographs are set as page backgrounds rather than as images, including the ones behind the listing cards and the hero on the homepage, so they carry no text description. Nothing is stated only in a photograph; the facts sit in the text beside it.
- The maps on the town pages and the homepage are visual aids. The same information is written in the text above each map, and no fact appears only on a map.
- Listing pages link to the SW VA Association of REALTORS MLS website for the full record. That site is not ours and may not meet the same standard; call and we will read the record to you.
- The homepage land value tool is interactive. If it does not work with your assistive technology, send the address through the form or call, and Lowell will give you the same read by phone.
- The site has not been tested with every combination of screen reader, browser and device. If yours does not get on with a page, tell us and we will treat that as the test.
- In the footer, the column headings (Selling, Explore, Contact) sit one level lower than they should, so a screen reader moving by heading skips a level at the bottom of every page. We know about it and it is queued to fix.
If something on this site does not work for you
Call (276) 733-8203 or email lowell@bowmanrealestate.us and say which page and what happened. A person will give you the information you were after, by phone or in an email, and we will fix the page. Reports of anything we missed are welcome and they are the fastest way for a problem to get corrected.
